Nestled west of Las Cruces in Fairacres, New Mexico, Johnson Farm America is rooted in generations of family history, hard work, and simple country living.
The story of our farm begins with Fred and Vance Johnson, Greg’s grandpa and grandma, who established the family farm many years ago on what was originally a 30-acre dairy farm in southern New Mexico. Greg and his brothers spent many years milking cows and growing up surrounded by the daily rhythms of farm life and hard work.
The original farmhouse, still standing today, became the heart of the Johnson family. Nearby, an adobe milk barn once supported the family’s dairy operation, and part of that historic structure can still be seen on the property behind the homes — a lasting reminder of the farm’s early roots.
The second generation of the farm was carried on by Richard and Elaine Johnson, who built their family home behind the original farmhouse in 1962. Greg Johnson and his two brothers were raised there, growing up surrounded by farm life, open fields, hard work, and strong family traditions.
Over the years, the farm has produced a wide variety of crops including chile, cotton, onions, cabbage, sweet corn, and many others. Today, the land continues to thrive with irrigated alfalfa fields and grape vineyards, supported by the original wells that still supply water to the property.
In 2009, Greg met Beth Hand, a native of Pittsburg, Kansas, and the two were married in 2012. Today, they reside in the original farmhouse built generations earlier, continuing the family’s connection to the land and preserving its rich history.
Johnson Farm America is also deeply inspired by Beth’s own upbringing and memories of her grandparents in Southeast Kansas. Many of her grandma’s handmade quilts and her grandpa’s rocking chair can still be found in the back house where the soaps and lotions are made today — small reminders of family heritage, craftsmanship, and the simple comforts of country life that continue to inspire the spirit behind the brand.
What once served as the home where Greg was raised has now found new life as the creative heart of Johnson Farm America. Beth uses the home to craft the farm’s handmade soaps, lotions, farm balms, and mercantile goods — blending old-fashioned values with handcrafted products inspired by the Southwest and Midwest rural way of life.
Today, Johnson Farm America has grown into more than just a farm. It is a rustic farmstand and mercantile built around family heritage, handmade craftsmanship, and a love for simple country living. From the Soap Shack to the Picker’s Barn, every product and display reflects the history of the land, the spirit of the Southwest, and the generations who helped shape it.
